Inside the Amazon Rainforest

Dark, lovely, luscious. The deep, dark brown color hints at the flavors within. With an aroma reminiscent of chocolate and freshly baked cookies, this beer is smooth, silky, creamy, full-bodied, roasty, toasty, and slightly nutty. This is one beautifully balanced, rich, and exquisite stout.

Body is light, and the mouthfeel smooth. The palate gathers apple peel, light clove notes and a thin sweetness that’s touched with caramel. In the middle, ripe and juicy fresh wheat malt with pear edge, while a husky, grainy, wheat twang livens things up. Suggestions of bubblegum are noted. There’s very little bitterness, but a slight lemony sourness, banana pith and light hop leaf character that, combined, increase the perceived bitterness. Yeast is rather neutral, a bit chalky. Some medicinal phenols show through toward the finish. Finish dries the palate, with a lingering wheat and barley husk.

The beer pours a hazy amber with red and brown hues, and yields large carbonation bubbles and a thick, tight, foamy head with some stick and retention. Citric aroma, grassy, with hints of lime and a soft, pale malt beneath. Fairly smooth and creamy on the palate, but a bit lackluster with a light carbonation scrub and watery yet even consistency. The hops come in first: a thin, rind-like citric flavor with a faintly perceived saltiness, light herbal notes and a bitter, grassy bite. Malt character and sweetness is pretty bland, with a weak toasty note as the highlight. Finish is drying, with a lingering hop character and sourness that just doesn’t seem right.
